Rev. Tom Vais and Rev. Dr. Heather Vais
The Rev. Tom Vais and the Rev. Dr. Heather Vais were inducted as the Ministry Team at Thornhill Presbyterian Church in June 2007. Prior to coming to Thornhill, Tom and Heather each served in different congregations.
The Rev. Tom Vais
Tom served from 1990-2007 in Caledonia Presbyterian Church in the Hamilton Presbytery. Caledonia was his first charge. In addition to congregational ministry, Tom has served on many boards and committees of the National Church. He has served on Assembly Council, Canada Ministries Advisory Council, and he was the Convenor of the Committee on Education and Reception for the P.C.C. Tom was the Moderator of the Presbytery of Hamilton in 2005 and the Presbytery of Oak Ridges in 2012. Tom has served on committees on the Synod level. His interests include reading, listening to and collecting music in his iTunes library, mountain biking, walking and spending time at the cottage in Muskoka with his family. Tom has a B.A. in Religious Studies from the University of Winnipeg and a Master of Divinity Degree from Knox College at the University of Toronto. You can reach Rev. The Rev. Dr. Heather J. Vais
Heather has been practicing ministry for 26 years serving in rural, downtown and suburban settings. While her passion is for ministry in the church, Heather has also taught a modular course in communication at Tyndale University. Her service to the broader church includes positions on boards and committees of the denomination, as well as serving as the moderator of the Presbytery of Oak Ridges and the chair of the Business Committee. Heather also spent many years as a member of the Board of Governors for Knox College as the chair of the Multiculturalism committee and on the executive. In May 2017 Heather received her degree of Doctor of Ministry from Knox College and University of Toronto. The title of her dissertation is Beyond Cordiality: Interpreting Practices of Mutual Hospitality toward Building Intercultural Competence at Thornhill Presbyterian Church.
In her spare time Heather enjoys cycling (particularly in preparation for The Enbridge Ride to Conquer Cancer), long walks with the dog, photography, reading, and time spent at the cottage with family. Heather has a B.A. in English and Philosophy from the Western University and a Master of Divinity degree from Knox College at the University of Toronto, and a doctoral degree from Knox College and the University of Toronto. Heather and Tom have two children, Brett and Elizabeth, one adorable dog and three playful cats.
Stephanie Vandermey – Office Administrator Stephanie enjoys her position at TPC as Office Administrator and has been here since July 2005. She is part of our choir and spends her off time crafting. Steph loves photography and when she’s able, loves to be at their Muskoka home away from home in Gravenhurst. She has three children, Steven , Jenna , and Eric and her first grandchild Aby. Maria Lim – Organist and Choir Director
Maria Lim is a professional musician as organist, choir director, recitalist, accompanist and piano pedagogue. The highlights of Maria’s career are her pipe organ performances at the Sydney Town Hall in Australia and the prestigious Lincoln Center in New York City; St. Bartholomew’s Church in Manhattan; and Cathedral Church of St. James , Metropolitan United Church and Yorkminster Park Baptist Church in Toronto. She also represented the Philippines as a featured soloist at the Second International Bamboo Organ Festival sponsored by the Royal Belgian Embassy, the German Cultural Center and the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Maria received her Master of Church Music (Organ Major) from Golden Baptist Theological Seminary in Mill Valley, California. Since February 1989, Maria has held the position as Director of Music Ministry (Organist and Choir Director) at Thornhill Presbyterian Church (Ontario, Canada).
